Tell us about Lumity – your ethos behind the company and how it all began?

I formulated the products for real, (perfectly) imperfect women, who are trying their best to live a healthy life, but often stress, a busy schedule and less-than-perfect choices or habits get in the way. I see Lumity as a high-powered nutritional support that gives disproportionate benefits for minimum commitment. Every Lumity product whether a supplement or a skincare product is packed full of superior nutrition. The nutrients chosen work together in carefully-calibrated teams to support the body’s best health from the inside out and from the outside in.

Can you talk a little about Lumity products, the development and your main target market?

Lumity's approach acknowledges the body's superior intelligence and harnesses the ways the body itself counterbalances on-going damage through protection and repair. Lumity works in balance with the body, following its lead and supporting its intrinsic drive towards health. Targeted nourishment is key whether from the inside out, with our supplements, or from the outside in, with our skincare, in order to gently and cumulatively support the body's youthful efficiency, which is crucial to maintaining glowing health and radiant beauty through the years.

What would you say gives Lumity the edge over other companies producing supplement ranges for healthy ageing?

Lumity's unique 2-step supplement offers the right nutritional support at the right time to help you look and feel your best all day, every day. It's your secret ally – the teams of carefully-calibrated nutrients come together to target different areas of health: immune support, vitality and brain health, skin, nails and hair, bones, joints, muscles and teeth, metabolism and absorption, as well as protection against oxidative damage. Lumity is also the only supplement on the market that takes into account the body's natural circadian rhythm by acknowledging the very different modes of functioning the body has between day and night. The morning capsules bolster the active daytime mode, while the night capsules harness the regenerative properties of the body's night-time mode.

Lumity 100% natural Facial Oil and Lumity’s 100% natural 4-in-1 Cleanse are perfectly-balanced blends of nourishing plant oils, extracts and essential oils rich in antioxidant polyphenols, vitamins and minerals, lycopene, resveratrol and coenzyme Q10, as well as regenerative amino acids and omega 3-6-9 fatty acids. These multi-functional products provide the full range of optimal nourishment the skin craves for 24/7 glowing health.

Describe a typical working day at Lumity?

Luckily my daughter forces me to work less than I probably would. My day is structured around her school hours, so when she comes out of school, I stop working and don’t pick up again until after her bedtime. My day consists of working on many different areas including product development, operations, answering customer, marketing and PR queries, writing and researching.

As a woman who has developed a hugely successful brand, do you think we are beginning to see a positive shift towards equality in the workplace and a change in ageist attitudes when it comes to women in business?

I hope so, but it’s hard to generalise. I think a great deal of misogyny and ageism still exists, as well as racism, which means that we still have barriers to entry that limit the valuable contribution whole sectors of our community can offer, but things are definitely better than they used to be.

What would you say are the main lifestyle factors that contribute to stress overload?

I think work is probably the main one for most people, then finances and relationships. Stress is one of the main drivers of ill health today, so it is vital for us all to find ways to limit it and if we can’t limit it, we need to balance it with relaxing activities that neutralise its effects.

Three positives for women to feel less invisible and confident as they age?

I think it involves becoming more visible to yourself. Women notoriously put others’ needs before their own to the point of feeling wiped out physically and emotionally. As we age, we need to learn how to best care for ourselves, find out what gives us joy and what we love so that it is less about being visible to the world and more about fully inhabiting yourself, shedding insecurities and embracing life.

Hardest challenge that you have had to overcome?

There have been many, mostly in my personal relationships, but it’s true that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and, although I wouldn’t have chosen to live through any of them, I’m thankful for what they taught me, in terms of perspective and resilience.

Accomplishment you are you most proud of?

My daughter, without a doubt.

If you could go back, what advice would you give to your younger self?

I would have encouraged my younger self to be less self-critical, more focused and persistent. However, youth is a time of exploration and wandering and, for me, that very winding path led to where I am today and I’m grateful for the great memories I made along the way.

How do you unwind and relax?

I like to watch films, listen to music, read, chat with my daughter, drink wine looking out over the sea, daydream, meditate, walk and, best of all, nap.

Favourite destination?

I love Italy, so Venice, Florence, but also the lakes and the sea, especially any of the islands. I instantly relax when I’m in Italy.

Best travel tip?

Travel light – I have become an expert at packing everything I need for any trip into one cabin bag.

Top beauty ‘must have’ in your makeup bag?

Lumity facial oil – it’s my skin’s essential daily diet.

Desert island disc, book and luxury item?

Sketches of Spain by Miles Davis

100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez

I can’t think of a luxury item, but small luxury experiences come to mind, like a sunset dinner on the beach with family and friends.

And finally, your favourite quote?

I love this one from Dr. Seuss: “Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you.”

Or again from Dr. Seuss: “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.”
