“I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change, I am changing the things I cannot accept.”
One of the great things about getting older is that we seem to become less compliant!
Not in a feisty and rebellious way, but more recognising that there are certain things we will no longer accept.
I don’t know if it’s because our younger selves had less choice to do this, years of saying yes when we wanted to say no, and not always having the voice of confidence to speak out.
Or perhaps we become less impetuous with age? We look before we leap, thinking more about what we will and will not accept.
Certainly, for me, I am less accepting now. My years have given me the courage, confidence and a louder voice to talk more, to share my opinions and to stand up against bias.
Of course, I know there are things we simply can’t change – the past for one! But if we begin by changing the things we cannot accept now, we’re creating a past that had no room for the things we could not and would not accept anyway!
