Fight Invisible from Top-to-Toe
So often, what I hear from women I meet is that they feel ‘invisible’, and lack real confidence. My answer is always the same: ‘invisible is a state of mind’.
Yes, society may not always see beauty in ageing, but that’s no excuse for allowing ourselves to fade into the background.
Here are my favourite ‘top-to-toe’ tips for being seen and heard, loud and clear: celebrating the best version of ourselves, no matter your age!

FASHION TO FIGHT THE FADE
It’s easy to lose confidence in fashion as we get older, or even lose interest, but I say, ‘dare to wear’. Fashion is incredibly powerful when it comes to making you feel confident. If you look good, you feel good.
I’m currently LOVING the pro-age, fashion-forward online boutique the-bias-cut.com. I had the pleasure of meeting their founder Jacynth who is not only a real style expert but completely inspirational!

1. Inject some colour. It's grey outside. But it doesn't mean our outfits need to be as drab as the weather. Inject some colour - it will not only brighten your mood but your complexion too. If you’re not confident wearing bold and bright shades, there are many rich and sensual shades that add colour. I love this deep rich plum cashmere jumper (and if feels gorgeous too!).
2. Get in touch. It’s easy to get stuck in a style rut and before you know it you’re totally out of touch with fashion, and looking it too! Keep up with the latest fashion trends and looks, and add a few pieces into your wardrobe each season. You don’t need to spend a fortune and high street stores like Zara are perfect places to start.
3. Learn to adore a great blouse. Those who know me well, will know that I LOVE them! They’re the ultimate fashion-fix, and perfect for dressing up any wardrobe staple. I wear Jeans a lot and it does get boring, so for a new lease of life, I pair them with a blouse (and I have a lot of them!!!). You can find my new purchase from above here at The Bias Cut.
MAKEUP TO MAKE AN ENTRANCE
1. Meet your perfect match. Use a touch of concealer first to ‘spot cover’ blemishes or imperfections. Use a peach tone to cover dark circles or age spots, yellow brightens and if you suffer from redness, use a green colour corrector.
2. Lush of flush. I love peach blush and always say it’s a ‘girl’s best friend’. The orange undertone in peach adds real warmth (almost more than a bronzer) while the pink undertone freshens. Apply to the cheeks and a light touch to the forehead, nose, chin and eyelids.
3. Creme de la contour. Fuller brows can be achieved by stroking a cool toned shaded pencil to create a shape - it needs to be taupe for an ultra-natural finish. For lips, use a pencil liner that’s ‘lip coloured’ to shape, define and minimise feathering. My trick is to line the cupid’s bow with a ‘halo’ nude tone liner to lift and plump.
HAIR TODAY, BE HEARD TOMORROW
I have yet to meet a woman who doesn’t feel more confident with great hair. My top three tips for an ‘invisibility-proof’ look is:
1. Ignore old myths about length. I wear my hair long and I love it, I certainly don’t see it as ‘too young’. But you must take care of it. Keep it trimmed, use a weekly treatment and treat yourself to a pro blow-dry.
2. Assess your shade. Even if you were naturally very dark in your youth, chances are a very dark ‘blocky’ tone will not look natural or flattering. Speak to your stylist about a colour with warmer tones to lift the skin. 3. Fake it ‘til you make it. If your hair has thinned, hair pieces are a godsend to put back fullness and make styling easier.
