Makeup Guide: Thinning Brows and Lips

As we age, changes in the face are completely natural, but that doesn’t mean they are always easy to navigate.

Two of the most common concerns we hear from our community are thinning brows and lips that appear less full or defined than they once were.

The good news is that with the right techniques and carefully chosen shades, you can softly restore shape, balance and definition in a way that still feels like you.

Here is how to approach both.

Thinning brows

The Brow Lift Perfecting Liner was thoughtfully developed with this exact concern in mind. The tone is deliberately balanced so it works even if you feel you have very little brow left to work with, making it incredibly forgiving and easy to use.

Start by running the pencil lightly through the brows using soft, feathery strokes. Focus on the outer ends of the brows where thinning is often most noticeable, and mimic the look of natural hairs rather than drawing heavy lines.

Once you have added those hair-like strokes, gently wash a small amount of product through the body of the brow to create subtle fullness, keeping the front of the brow softer and less defined for a more natural finish.

If you are ever unsure where your brows should sit, a simple brow mapping technique can help guide you. Using the edge of your nose as a reference point, align it vertically to find where the brow should begin. Then angle it through the centre of your iris to locate the arch, and finally towards the outer corner of your eye to determine where the tail should end. This gives you a structure to follow while still allowing the result to feel soft and individual to you.

Thinning lips

When it comes to lips, loss of volume and definition is incredibly common, but it can be gently enhanced without looking overdone.

The Lip Perfecting Liner was created using a carefully balanced tone designed to replicate the natural colour within the lips. A little known detail is that lips actually contain cool, almost blue undertones, which is why this shade works so well to create a believable, natural looking enhancement.

Begin with the highlighting end and apply it just above the natural lip line. This is where light would naturally catch, and by softly brightening this area you create the illusion of lift and volume. Blend gently so there are no harsh edges. The effect should be subtle, almost as though light is naturally reflecting off the skin.

Next, take the lip-toned shade to define and enhance the shape of the lips. Focus on slightly over-lining the centre of the top and bottom lip, where fullness naturally sits. Be more delicate at the corners of the mouth, as placing product too low can pull the face downwards. You can either keep the corners very soft or slightly under-draw them to create a more lifted, pouty effect.

It is also important to respect the natural shape of your cupid’s bow. While it can be tempting to round it out, keeping this structure intact ensures the result remains elegant and believable.

To finish, apply your lipstick or gloss through the centre of the lips only. This draws light into the fullest part of the lip, enhancing dimension and creating a naturally fuller appearance without needing to add more product everywhere.
