Grace's Musings: Dare to dress up
There’s something so special about those pieces we’ve kept tucked away in the back of our wardrobe — favourites from 20 years ago that still feel like part of us. Whether we’re waiting for a trend to come back or just know we’re not done with them yet, we shouldn’t let anyone make us think we’re too old to wear them now.
The truth is: it doesn’t matter. If we love it, we should wear it. Style has no age limit. And neither do we.
I’ve been reflecting on how we show up in the world, especially when it comes to style and fashion. For me, 'dare to dress up' has become a bit of a mantra. I’ve realised that although comfort zones feel safe, it’s never too late to challenge the boundaries and own my look.
Age has armed me with more confidence. Now, it’s about embracing who I am and wearing what makes me feel alive, not what society dictates as ‘appropriate'.
I find the phrase ‘age-appropriate’ so outdated - a term that should have been thrown out decades ago! And yet, we still feel that judgement, sometimes even from other women. But here’s the question: are we done with blending in?
I find each year adds more depth, more wisdom, more ‘me’. I’m not here to shrink myself to fit anyone else’s outdated expectations, and if you’re reading this, I suspect neither are you!
The fashion world may still use twenty-somethings for its campaigns, but that doesn't mean style has an expiry date. Maybe our tastes evolve, but evolving doesn’t mean fading into the background. It means choosing what feels right for us, on our terms and without compromise.
Icons like the late, incredible Iris Apfel remind me that style isn’t about age - it’s about spirit and passion. About daring to be seen. About celebrating our freedom in how we express ourselves, with no apologies, no rules.
Personally, I refuse to let age define me. You’ll find me wearing my absolute favourite jumpsuit from Donna Ida @donnaida, alongside pieces from amazing female founders; @lisoulondon, @elevenloves.co.uk, @raefeather, @southoftheriverlondon to name a few. These women always inspire me. They’re not just following trends, they’re setting their own standards, pushing boundaries, and making their mark in their own way.
So I say: if you like it, wear it!
Be visible, vibrant, and be-you-tifully yourself.
Wear what you love. Wear what makes you feel confident. Wear what makes you feel YOU.
I know this is me - unapologetically, authentically, entirely me.
