Makeup For Glasses


In recent years I have noticed that glasses have come into their own, going from geek to chic and becoming a true style statement.

 

Speaking as a specs-wearing makeup lover, I really struggled to find makeup shades, techniques and products that complement glasses, and applying makeup with less than 20/20 vision is another matter!

 

I recommend investing in a magnifying mirror (such a game-changer) and finding a makeup look that works with your glasses.

 

With lots of experimenting, I can finally say I have mastered spec-wearing makeup. 

DODGING THE SHADOWS

Wearing glasses can create shadows under the eyes, and a magnifying lens can accentuate discolouration. To counteract this ass concealer a few shades lighter than your usual foundation colour to brighten your under-eyes.

BLUSH TO MAKE YOU FLUSH

Dab blush on the apples of your cheeks and then diffuse upwards towards your temples. The trick here is to use your frames as a guide to get a good idea of placement.

 

Heightening the blush slightly over your cheekbones can help make your eyes pop, ensuring they don’t disappear behind your glasses. Make sure to blend the blush well and avoid hues that are too intense, especially if you’re already rocking a statement frame.

BROWS THAT WOW

Eyes are the window to the soul but brows are the frame to the face, and glasses draw attention to them! Be sure to keep your brows groomed and neat by brushing upwards and getting rid of any stray hairs as these can be exaggerated under magnifying lenses. 


Once your brows have been tamed, using my Brow Lift Perfecting Brow Pencil make light strokes to imitate natural hairs and bring the look together by highlighting your brow bone with nude brightening eyeshadow. 

 

Ensure a balance between the thickness of your eyebrows and the size of your frames. If you have thick frames, over-exaggerating your eyebrows might be too much!

LUXURIANT LASHES

Curl your eyelashes before applying mascara to prevent your lashes from brushing the lens as you blink, this will open up and brighten your eyes. Clamp at the base of the lashes, then hold the curler for five to ten seconds as you lift up. 

 

Switch your lengthening mascara to a volumising one such as my 6-in-1 Perfect Lash Mascara to give your eyes a wide awake look, and make sure to use a long lasting formula to ensure your mascara won’t budge or smear over your specs throughout the day.

EYES ON THE PRIZE

When applying eye makeup with glasses, both the frame thickness and the vision correction have to be taken into account. Glasses can change the appearance of your eyes depending on your prescription.


If you’re shortsighted your eyes may appear smaller, so address this by applying our I-Lift Longwear Liner in a lighter colour such as brown or grey to define and accentuate your eyes. Then add a wash of our Liquid Foil I-Radiance, to create the perfect contrast. If you’re longsighted your eyes may appear bigger. So, to compensate for this opt for a dark, matte eyeshadow from our Visible Lift I-Definer palette to achieve a visual minimisation of the eye.


Size matters. For thick frames use a thicker liner on your top lash line and opt for a softer liner look with thinner frames. Your eyeshadow should complement rather than compete with your glasses. If you’re already making a bold statement with your specs make sure to tone down your eyeshadow look accordingly.

LIP SERVICE

Because your frames can often take centre stage, finding that balance between the upper and lower part of your face is vital. Opting for a bright lip can help even everything out.


If you have bold coloured frames, you might want to be daring and choose an equally bold lip, adding drama. If your frames are dark and plain in colour, pairing them them with a fiery red lip gloss is chic and classy. The trick here is to wear neutral and natural makeup everywhere else and let your lips do the talking.
